Refocus: Fixing Your Eyes on What God Has Already Spoken
Have you ever found yourself asking God for direction but feeling like you’re getting no clear answer? You pray, seek wisdom, and even ask for confirmation, but somehow, you still feel stuck.
I know that feeling all too well.
There was a time when I kept asking God for clarity, but deep down, I already knew what He had told me to do. Instead of moving forward in obedience, I kept waiting for the perfect moment, overanalyzing every little detail, and letting fear convince me that maybe I wasn’t ready.
Until one day, I realized something:
I wasn’t waiting on God… God was waiting on me.
If you’ve been circling the same mountain of doubt, fear, or hesitation, this is your reminder to refocus and move forward in what God has already spoken.
Stop Circling the Same Mountain
In Deuteronomy 2:3, God spoke to the Israelites after they had spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness, delaying the very promise He had for them.
"You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn north."
God had already given them the land, but instead of stepping into it, they let fear and doubt keep them stuck. They kept going in circles, just like many of us do today.
We pray for a new word, a new revelation, or a new opportunity, but sometimes, we don’t need something new. We need to obey what God has already said.
Walking by Faith, Not by Sight
One of the biggest reasons we hesitate to obey God is because we can’t see the whole picture.
But God never told us to walk by sight. He told us to walk by faith.
"For we walk by faith, not by sight." – 2 Corinthians 5:7
Faith means stepping forward before we see the results.
Faith means trusting that God is working behind the scenes, even when we don’t understand the timing.
Faith means believing that if God called us to it, He will equip us for it.
Think about Noah. He built the ark before it ever rained.
Think about Peter. He stepped out of the boat before the waves stopped.
Think about David. He was anointed king years before he sat on the throne.
They didn’t wait for perfect conditions, but obeyed and trusted God to handle the details.
Write the Vision & Commit to It
If you feel like your obedience has been scattered or inconsistent, take a moment to write down what God has told you.
Habakkuk 2:2 says:
“Write the vision and make it plain, so that a herald may run with it.”
When you write something down, it becomes clearer and harder to ignore.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, grab a journal and write these things down:
📝 What is the last thing you know God told you to do?
📝 What fears or distractions have been holding you back?
📝 What is one small step you can take today to move forward?
How to Refocus & Move Forward in Obedience
If you are tired of feeling stuck, here are four simple steps to help you refocus:
1️⃣ Recognize what God has already spoken.
Go back to what He has put on your heart. Stop waiting for a new word when you already have one.
2️⃣ Identify what’s keeping you stuck.
Are you afraid of failure? Overthinking? Comparing yourself to others? Call it out so you can confront it with the Word.
3️⃣ Take one step today.
It doesn’t have to be big. Obedience starts with small steps. Send the email, write the outline, make the phone call, spend time in prayer. Whatever it is… just start.
4️⃣ Trust that God will guide your next step.
You don’t have to see the whole path. Just walk in faith and trust that He will lead you.
